17 Day Self-Drive Tour

The 17 Day Self-Drive Holiday  offers guests a full and extensive package through South Africa. Guests will travel from Johannesburg and slowly make their way to the Mother City, Cape Town. The route will take guests to some of the best national parks in Africa, the unrelenting waves of the Indian Ocean and lush coastal Garden Route.


Greenfire will assist you in arranging all the accommodation for your holiday, vehicle hire and suggested routes. The package also has a variety of optional activities available.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN JOHANNESBURG

Guests arrive in Johannesburg and are met by the Greenfire Transfer Driver. After exchanging money guests are transferred to the Greenfire Lodge Johannesburg where they will spend the night. Depending on their arrival time guests can go on an optional Soweto Tour in the afternoon. B

DAY 2: JOHANNESBURG TO GREENFIRE GAME LODGE

After breakfast guests depart form the Johannesburg Lodge in their hired vehicle and make their way to the Greenfire Game Lodge in the Balule Nature Reserve. (The hired vehicle will be delivered to the Greenfire Lodge Johannesburg). Guests can follow their own route but we suggest following the scenic route through Mpumalanga stopping at places such as Dullstroom or Pilgrims Rest for a coffee break. Our staff will be ready and waiting for you at the Greenfire Game Lodge where you will spend the next 4 nights in luxury.
Guest can also choose to fly from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit where the Greenfire Game Lodge staff will meet them. B, D

DAY 3: GREENFIRE GAME LODGE

An early wake up at 05h00 we start the day with a light breakfast before the morning activity. Guests have the option of a morning Game Drive or a morning Game Walk. The Game drive/walk will depart at 05h45 and return to the Lodge at 09h30. Brunch will be served at the Lodge once guests had some time to freshen up after their activity. The afternoon will be spent at leisure relaxing next to the pool or on the deck.
Afternoon Tea will be served at 15h00 after which the late afternoon game drive will depart. Guests will stop in the bush for traditional Sundowner and return in the evening from the game drive for dinner. B L D

DAY 4: GREENFIRE GAME LODGE

Enjoying our time in the bush we follow a similar routine as the day before. An early wake up at 05h00 we start the day with a light breakfast before the morning activity. Guests have the option of a morning Game Drive or a morning Game Walk. The Game drive/walk will depart at 05h45 and return to the Lodge at 09h30. DAY 5: SELF DRIVE PANORAMA ROUTE

Departing form the Game Lodge after breakfast guests has the entire day to drive the Panorama route. Highlights will include the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window. Lunch can be enjoyed in any of the quaint little towns in the area. In the afternoon guests arrive at the Greenfire Lodge Hazyview. Guests can enjoy dinner at any of the restaurants in the area. B

DAY 6: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Departing form the Hazyview Lodge early in the morning guests have the full day to explore the more familiar part of Kruger Park. In the late afternoon guests return to the Greenfire Lodge Hazyview where they spend the night again. B

DAY 7 – 8: SWAZILAND / ZULULAND

Traveling south through the Kingdom of the Swazi, guests will pass numerous traditional homesteads, view spectacular scenery and can stop at curio markets, before they enter Zululand, the area once ruled by the famed Shaka Zulu, a region of Game Reserves and impressive scenery. Guests will spend the next two nights in Zululand. During the stay guests will have to opportunity to self-drive in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve or visit the World Heritage site of St. Lucia. Lunches and dinners are own expense and can be enjoyed at a variety of restaurants in the area. B; B

DAY 9: DOLPHIN COAST

A relaxed start this morning guests travel south down the coast and make their way to Umdloti and the Greenfire Lodge Dolphin Coast where they spend the night. The Lodge is literally on the beach and is the ideal stop over to spend some time relaxing on the beach. Dinner can be enjoyed at any of the restaurants in town.

DAY 10: DOLPHIN COAST

Guests has the full day to spend some time on the beach or self drive to Durban and explore the sites and sounds of the city. Lunches and dinners can be enjoyed at a multitude of restaurants. For the brave the Durban Peri-Peri is a must. Overnight at the Greenfire Lodge Dolphin Coast. B

DAY 11 – 13: DOLPHIN COAST to PORT ELISABETH

Guests depart form the Lodge after breakfast and self-drive to the King Shaka airport for their flight to Port Elisabeth. On arrival in Port Elisabeth guests will collect their rental car and travel down the coast along the Garden Route to the town of Knysna and the Greenfire Lodge Knysna, where they will spend the next three nights.
The days here can be spent exploring this renowned region and its many attractions. Highlights include the Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park where guests can walk part of the acclaimed “Otter Trail” or guests may choose a sea kayak trip or mountain bike ride. (Own expense). There will be time to visit sun-kissed beaches, the Knysna Heads, and our superb location will allow free time to explore the old woodcutter town of Knysna. There are a variety of restaurants available where guests can enjoy their lunches and dinners. B ; B ; B

DAY 14 – 16: CAPE TOWN

A leisurely start, guests leave Knysna to travel through the Lake District and then to follow the “Whale Route” around the Hottentots Holland Mountains toward their final destination. Arriving in the “Mother City” of Cape Town in the late afternoon, guests check into the Greenfire Lodge Cape Town, which is situated on the Sea Point beachfront. Cape Town is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and guests have two full days here to visit Cape Point, Hout Bay, the Waterfront, secluded beaches, wine farms and many more highlights. Weather permitting guests must include a visit the the world famous Table Mountain. Cape Town offers some of the best restaurants available and guests will have time to enjoy their meals at a selections of places. B ; B ; B

DAY 17: SELF DRIVE TO AIRPORT

A leisurely start, guests can enjoy breakfast at the Lodge and from there make their way to the Cape Town Airport depending on their departure flight time. B
